It’s Not Too Late to Get Hurricane-Ready With Help From Hurricane Home Prep
ST. AUGUSTINE, Florida (September 10, 2025) – Hurricane Home Prep founder Tori Andrews has a lifelong mission to help residents be as prepared as possible. Since 2008, when she became an apprentice catastrophe insurance adjuster at the age of 18, she has witnessed severe and life-threatening devastation in nearly 40 states and two U.S. territories from hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, fires, blizzards, and other natural disasters. She reached a crossroads when responding to the catastrophic damage Fort Myers suffered during Hurricane Ian in 2022.
“I had spent about six months in Fort Myers in 2017 after Hurricane Irma, and made a lot of close friends,” says Tori Andrews, Founder of Hurricane Home Prep. “Coming back there after Hurricane Ian was absolutely horrifying. Residents had less than 24 hours to prepare for a 10-15 foot storm surge. The losses I witnessed, properties being wiped out, people being rescued from floodwaters, and tags marking where people lost their lives, made an enormous impact on me. I knew I could help people not only prepare themselves for storms, but also give them peace of mind, if and when a storm strikes.”
Andrews’s nearly 20 years of experience allows her to help home and business owners efficiently and effectively prepare for potential threats, as well as navigate the aftermath of a disaster. Based in St. Augustine, Hurricane Home Prep’s services are available throughout Florida, and include: Mitigation Referral and Prevention, Planning and Preparedness, Insurance and Documentation Review, Structural Fortification Recommendations, Community and Group Solutions, and Trusted Contractor Referrals. Andrews is especially concerned with protecting those who may have difficulty preparing or are targeted by post-storm scams, including the elderly and medically fragile.
Hurricane season begins June 1st and runs through November 30th, but peaks mid-August to late October. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, approximately 92 percent of a hurricane season’s activity and 93 percent of hurricane landfalls along the U.S. East and Gulf coasts occur from August through the end of the season. That means it’s not too late to get your home and business ready.
“It’s so important to take time to prepare, while you’re calm and thinking,” says Andrews. “Easy things people can do include taking 360-degree videos of every room in your house and uploading them to a digital cloud service; making sure you have a copy of your insurance policy and that it’s active and appropriate; having an evacuation plan that includes family meet-up places locally, regionally, and nationally; understanding how to use your gas or solar generator before you need it; and for pets, making sure you have a pet crate stocked with a filled gallon of water, a sealed plastic bag of food, a leash, and a collar.”
